Preventing Disease Transmission Back to top

An American Red Cross Course program designed to provide participants with an understanding of the bloodborne pathogens regulation issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Junior: Back to top

The junior classes are held twice a week for an hour. The program develops strength, flexibility, agility, balance and coordination. This program design accomplishes these goals:

  1. Develop concentration to improve both mental and physical skills.
  2. Improve coordination, strength and discipline.
  3. Provide an excellent foundation to build character and self-respect.
  4. Give them the respect towards themselves and others.
  5. Teach that enjoyment can be experienced by moving their bodies through exercising.
  6. To establish a basic martial arts technique foundation for the junior student to build on.

Parents are asked to encourage their junior student to repeat the techniques they learned at the dojo at home in front of the family after every class. Helping them at home to stretch their legs and to repeat their blocks, punches, kicks and techniques will enhance a student's training. Please see Professor LeClair if you desire to purchase training equipment to be used in your home. Repeating their techniques at home will improve student's skills faster. Remember the learning and comprehension rate is different for everyone, for some individuals it will take longer then for others, encouragement at all levels is important. Research has conclusively shown that if you increase the coordination skills of a child, you also increase their learning ability. We strive to help our students achieve greater self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment at every level of training.

We truly believe you are making a wise investment in your child's future by having enrolled them in The Budo Kai Martial Arts Institute. The martial arts is a multifaceted program designed to bring out the best in each individual both physically and cognitively. The student will enjoy a heightened sense of well being and peace of mind. Throughout your child's training experience with us, your child will constantly be challenged with new goals. The accomplishment of these goals will promote self-esteem and self-confidence. This positive change will greatly affect all areas of life. Remember the journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step.

You have just taken that first step!

Scholastic AchievementA note to parentsBack to top

Dear Parents,

Like you, we recognize that your child's success in school is of the utmost importance. At The Budo kai Martial Arts Institute, all junior and peewee students are required to bring in a copy of their report cards or progress reports. With school budget cuts and strong unhealthy peer pressure, doing well in school takes more effort and encouragement then ever before.

As such, we would like to recognize those students who have received nothing below a B- on their most recent report cards. We also are just as concerned, if not more so, about comments that been made by the child's teacher regarding their behavior, concentration, homework assignments, ect. Working towards higher grades is something to be proud of and a practice to be encouraged! At The Budo Kai Martial Arts Institute, each time a junior student receives a report card with no grade below a B-, they earn a red stripe on their belt. Their achievement not only provides peer recognition, but also entitles them to line up within the group at a position of higher rank than others who hold the same belt rank and have as yet to make the grade scholastically. Thus giving him/her a well deserved special status within the dojo.

Conversely, if your child is having challenges with his/her school material, please feel free to let us know. We will be happy to provide support and encouragement in any way possible.

The martial arts can provide immeasurable benefits to children as far as goal achievement, self discipline, confidence, etc. Every once in a while in school, just as in the martial arts, kids attitudes, and their desire to train hit peaks and valleys. Allow us to heighten the peaks by recognizing positive achievements and to level out the valleys by working with the student to overcome challenges they may have. As we all know, success comes by meeting challenges and overcoming them. We'd like to help!

Professor LeClair

A special note to parents- by Dr. James Dobson, New Dare to discipline Back to top

Although we do not advocate the use of violence, we do believe that no individual should allow themselves to be abused or injured under any circumstances. Thus, we do advocate the use of controlled self-defense when absolutely necessary to protect one's self and ones loved ones. The following excerpt from the book "Dare to Discipline" by Dr. James Dobson exemplifies our philosophies:

Question: My 4-year-old frequently comes running home in tears because she has been hit by one of her little friends. I have taught her that it is not right to hit others, but now the other girl is making life miserable for my little girl, what should I do?

Answer: I think you were wise to teach your daughter not to hit and hurt others, but self-defense is another matter. Children can be unmerciful to a defenseless child. When youngsters play together, they each want to have the best toys and determine ground rules to their own advantage. If they find they can dominate by simply flinging a well-aimed fist at the nose of their playmate, someone is likely to get hurt. I'm sure there are those who disagree with me on the issue, but I believe you should teach your child to fight back when attacked.

I recently consulted with a mother who was worried about her small daughter's inability to defend herself. There was one child in their neighborhood who would crack 3 year old Ann in the face at the slightest provocation. This little bully, named Meghan, was very small and feminine, but she never felt the sting of retaliation because Ann had been taught not to fight. I recommended that Ann's mother tell her to hit Meghan back if she was hit first.

Several days later, the mother heard a loud altercation outside, followed by a brief scuffle. Then Meghan began crying and went home. Ann walked casually into the house with her hands in her pockets and explained, "Meghan socked me, so I had to help her remember not to hit me again."

Ann had efficiently returned an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. She and Meghan had played together much more peacefully since that time.

Generally speaking, a parent should emphasize the stupidity of fighting. But to force children to stand passively while being clobbered is to leave them at the mercy of their cold blooded peers.

Networking Program Back to previous page

Dear Students & Parents:

In recognition of the fact that we have a diverse range of talents among our many students and their families, I invite you to participate in our networking system.

If you are an artist, barber, landscaper, carpenter, real estate agent, electrician, etc. and wish to inform others of your services, please send us a short e mail telling us your name, phone number, and the service you would like to offer. And we will list it on this site. This is also an appropriate forum to let others know if you are in need of a job or if you are interested in hiring someone.
P.S. when sending an e mail please put "post to Networking section" on the subject line.

Please be thoughtful and creative and don't be bashful! This is an excellent way to publicize your skills, services or needs and to share them with your fellow students.

The success of this idea is directly proportional to how many of you participate, so PLEASE give some thought and offer what you can so that we may all benefit.

Thank you for your input!
