Membership Guidelines

  • Absent or tardy from a class: a phone call and an explanation are necessary. Members going on vacation, taking a leave of absence, etc., are responsible for making timely payments. There will be no refunds for classes missed. See Professor for make-up classes; make-up classes must be completed within four weeks of the delinquent class.

  • A Sensei(s) and/or an Assistant Instructor(s): only are allowed to teach new techniques to lower ranking students unless Professor LeClair states otherwise. It is suggested that each student keep a notebook, this is not mandatory.
  • Individualized learning needs: private lessons are available. These lessons cost $25.00 - $35.00 for 30 minutes of personalized instruction. Students benefit greatly from private instruction. Consider an occasional private lesson on a bi-monthly basis, before or after testing.

  • Evaluations for Promotion: to next belt rank. Student shall pay the evaluation fee in advance. Students who pass will receive a new belt and a certificate. In the event that a student fails a promotional evaluation the student must retake the evaluation and pay the fee in advance.

  • Etiquette regarding rank requests is as follows:
    1. Martial artist's should absolutely never ask an instructor for another rank grade, this is highly insulting towards rank and its etiquette.
    2. Your instructor knows when you are ready to be promoted, for Professor LeClair runs periodic checks on same. Ranks are given to those who earn them, but to a vast majority of people in the arts, the only thing they see in their training is a higher grading, and tend to overlook their reasons for training. Little do these people realize that it isn't the obi or belt that earns respect, it's the Martial Artist!

  • Promotional Evaluation Criteria:

The following criterion is used in deciding whether or not a student is ready to be tested for a new rank and or title: (Not necessarily in the order of importance)
